NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team cruised to an 82-64 victory over IU Northwest on Saturday.
IU Southeast jumped out to a 9-2 lead three minutes into the first quarter. The Grenadiers led by as many as 13 in the first quarter and held a 20-10 advantage after one.
IU Southeast held a 13-point lead once more, but IU Northwest cut the lead back to eight at 28-20. IU Southeast then fired off seven straight points to take a 34-20 advantage. The Grenadiers led 44-26 at the half.
With IU Southeast ahead 51-33, the Grenadiers used a 12-0 run to take a commanding 63-33 lead. IU Southeast led 65-37 at the end of three.
IU Southeast led by as many as 31 in the fourth quarter and would go on to win 82-64.
IU Southeast was led by
Grace Stapleton, who had 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Jesse Ledgerwood scored 21 points, and
Morgan Roberts added 11.
Linzie Wernert had eight points and a team-high 12 rebounds, and
Taylor Treat added seven points and a team-high five assists.
"Proud of our girls today," IU Southeast head coach Abby Downard said. "We punched first and kept it going. Great ball movement and a lot of growth in some small areas we have been working on. Excited to keep working with this group."
IU Southeast moves to 4-7 on the year. The Grenadiers return to action next Saturday with a home contest against Ohio Christian.
