OWENSBORO, Ky. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team fell to NCAA Division II opponent Kentucky Wesleyan 83-38 on Wednesday.
The score was tied 5-5 three minutes into the game, but KWC used an 11-0 run to take a 16-5 lead. KWC led 22-8 after the first quarter.
IU Southeast outscored KWC 14-11 in the second quarter, but the Panthers led 33-22 at the half.
KWC outscored IU Southeast 26-9 in the third quarter and 24-7 in the fourth quarter and would go on to win 83-38.
IU Southeast was led by
Grace Stapleton, who had 16 points and five rebounds.
Jesse Ledgerwood was the only other Grenadier in double figures with 13 points.
Linzie Wernert had seven points and five rebounds, and
Ella Brown added two points and a team-high eight rebounds and three assists.
"Thought we competed early against a really well coached basketball team," IU Southeast head coach Abby Downard said. "Just didn't find a way to get stops when shots weren't falling. We have to be more physical on the defensive end. Back to work tomorrow."
IU Southeast falls to 5-8 on the season. The Grenadiers kick off 2026 with a home contest against Oakland City on Saturday.
