OWENSBORO, Ky. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team fell to Brescia 84-75 on Thursday.
IU Southeast jumped out to an 8-2 lead three minutes into the game. The Grenadiers extended their lead to double digits at 15-4. IU Southeast led by 12 at 17-5 nearly five minutes into the contest.
Brescia cut the lead to five at 17-12, but IU Southeast answered with five straight points to make it 22-12. The Grenadiers led 29-19 halfway through the first half.
IU Southeast held a 33-24 lead, but Brescia responded with an 11-2 run to tie the contest at 35-35. Brescia took their first lead of the game at 39-38. The Bearcats led 45-40 at halftime.
Brescia opened the second half with a 13-1 run to extend their lead to 58-41. Brescia extended their advantage to 24 at 72-48 with 10:41 remaining.
IU Southeast used a 12-1 run to cut the Brescia lead to 13 at 73-60, but a three-pointer gave Brescia a 76-60 advantage with 4:55 left.
Brescia would go on to win 84-75.
"With 21 turnovers, you are not going to win many games," IU Southeast head coach
Wiley Brown said. "I sent this [Rick Pitino video about defense] to them a couple days before this game. It worked for 10 minutes, and our defense went to hell. They can't fight through fatigue. They become mentally unstable. It's hard to watch because they are talented enough to win games. Back to the lab."
Camden Pfeister led IU Southeast with 15 points.
Lane Lauderbaugh added 13 points and six rebounds.
Trent Hinkle had 11 points, four assists, and four rebounds.
Harrison Raisor had 10 points and four rebounds off the bench.
Xavier Price added eight points and seven rebounds.
IU Southeast (11-15, 6-9 RSC) closes the regular season with a trip to IU Columbus on Saturday.
