NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team continued their winning ways, sweeping a doubleheader against Georgetown on Tuesday.
IU Southeast scored first in game one. An RBI fielder's choice by
McKenzie Walters gave IU Southeast a 1-0 lead.
The game remained 1-0 until the fifth when Georgetown scored a run to tie the game at 1-1.
Alaina Winzeler led off the fifth with a solo home run to give IU Southeast a 2-1 lead. An RBI single by
Lillian Mackey put IU Southeast ahead 3-1.
An RBI double by
McKenzie Walters in the sixth extended the IU Southeast lead to 4-1. An RBI single by
Emily Wolf made it 5-1, and an RBI groundout by
Josie Lemmons put IU Southeast ahead 6-1.
IU Southeast would go on to win 6-1.
Josie Lemmons and
Emily Wolf both had two hits.
McKenzie Walters led IU Southeast with two RBI.
Sofia Guy and Walters both doubled, and
Alaina Winzeler hit a home run.
Savannah Gaither,
Grace Stapleton, and
Emily Wolf all stole a base.
Emma Davis got the start and the win, giving up just one unearned run in a complete game performance.
Georgetown took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of game two.
A sacrifice fly by
Sofia Guy in the first tied the game at 1-1.
A two-RBI single by
Emily Wolf in the second gave IU Southeast a 3-1 lead.
Two runs came around to score in the third on a
Kaitlyn Leister single and an error to put IU Southeast ahead 5-1. An RBI triple by
Sofia Guy extended the Grenadier lead to 6-1.
An RBI double by
Alaina Winzeler put IU Southeast ahead 7-1. A bases loaded walk by
Grace Stapleton put the Grenadiers up 8-1.
Georgetown got a run back in the fourth to make it 8-2.
A sacrifice fly by
Alaina Winzeler gave the Grenadiers a 9-2 lead. A wild pitch brought in another run to make it 10-2.
IU Southeast would go on to win 10-2 in five innings.
Four Grenadiers had two hits, and three different Grenadiers had two RBI apiece.
Sofia Guy had a double and a triple, and
Alaina Winzeler doubled.
Josie Lemmons,
Brynlea Bennett,
Haley Fuhr and
Alaina Winzeler each stole a base.
Hallie Foley got the win, allowing two runs in five innings.
"Two fantastic wins today!" IU Southeast interim head coach
Erin Templeman said. "Our pitchers delivered outstanding performances keeping the opposing team in check while our offense was sharp and productive at the plate. A great all-around effort from the team!"
IU Southeast (9-5) returns to action on Thursday for a doubleheader against (RV) Rio Grande.
