BECKLEY, W. Va. – The IU Southeast softball team swept WVU Tech in a doubleheader on Saturday.
IU Southeast scored first in game one. In the second inning,
Sofia Guy doubled, stole third, and scored on a throwing error to put the Grenadiers ahead 1-0.
The score remained 1-0 until the fifth when
Josie Lemmons scored on a passed ball to give IU Southeast a 2-0 lead.
WVU Tech got a run back in the fifth to make it 2-1.
In the top of the sixth,
Josie Lemmons delivered a two-RBI single to give IU Southeast a 4-1 edge.
Sofia Guy drew a bases loaded walk to make it 5-1. Two runs came around to score on a wild rundown to put the Grenadiers ahead 7-1.
WVU Tech scored a run in the sixth to make it 7-2.
Two runs came around to score on an error in the seventh to put IU Southeast ahead 9-2, which would be the final score.
Josie Lemmons led IU Southeast with four hits and two RBI.
Sofia Guy doubled twice, and Lemmons doubled once. Guy stole the lone base for the Grenadiers.
Emma Davis threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run in seven innings.
IU Southeast scored first in game two as well. In the top of the first,
Josie Lemmons came around to score on a double steal to give IU Southeast a 1-0 lead.
An RBI double by
Emma Shirley in the second put IU Southeast ahead 2-0. Shirley came around to score on another double steal to put the Grenadiers up 3-0.
An RBI single by
Grace Stapleton in the fourth put IU Southeast ahead 4-0.
WVU Tech scored a run in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-1, but the Golden Bears couldn't muster another run as IU Southeast secured a 4-1 win.
Josie Lemmons and
Grace Stapleton each had two hits.
McKenzie Walters and
Emma Shirley each doubled. Lemmons and
Sofia Guy stole two bases apiece, and
Emma Shirley and
Emily Wolf each stole a base.
Hannah Nunemaker threw a complete game, allowing one run in seven innings of work.
"Good two road wins," IU Southeast interim head coach
Erin Templeman said. "Both pitchers threw great. Base running was aggressive, giving us some insurance runs."
IU Southeast moves to 15-9 overall and 11-5 in RSC play. The Grenadiers return to action on Tuesday at Brescia.
