OWENSBORO, Ky. – The IU Southeast softball team shut out Brescia in a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday.
In game one, an RBI single by
Emma Shirley in the second gave IU Southeast a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, an RBI single by
Alaina Winzeler made it 2-0 IU Southeast.
In the sixth, a two-RBI double by
Sofia Guy gave the Grenadiers a 4-0 lead. An RBI single by
Kaitlyn Leister made it 5-0.
Two runs came around to score on a
Brynlea Bennett single and a throwing error to make it 7-0 Grenadiers. Two more runs came around to score on a dropped fly ball to make it 9-0, which would be the final score.
Josie Lemmons and
Emma Shirley both had three hits.
Sofia Guy doubled, and
Emma Shirley stole a base.
Emma Davis threw a three-hit complete game shutout while striking out six.
Game two remained scoreless until the fourth. An RBI double by
Kaitlyn Leister gave IU Southeast a 1-0 lead. Another run came around to score on a passed ball to make it 2-0.
A sacrifice fly by
Sofia Guy in the sixth made it 3-0, which would be the final score.
Josie Lemmons led IU Southeast with two hits.
Kaitlyn Leister doubled, and
Emma Shirley stole a base.
Hannah Nunemaker struck out six in a complete game shutout. Nunemaker only allowed one baserunner, an infield single in the first inning.
"Both pitchers threw great," IU Southeast interim head coach
Erin Templeman said. "Big shoutout to Hannah on a one hit shutout. Would've liked to see bats come out hot from the get-go."
IU Southeast moves to 17-9 overall and 13-5 in RSC play.
