NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The 14
th ranked IU Southeast baseball team split a doubleheader with No. 5 Reinhardt on Saturday.
Reinhardt took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of game one. In the bottom of the first, a sacrifice fly by
Logan Beard tied the game at 1-1. An RBI single by
Hazel Martinez gave IU Southeast a 2-1 lead.
Reinhardt tied the game at 2-2 in the second.
The game remained tied at 2-2 until the sixth when Reinhardt scored three runs to take a 5-2 lead.
An RBI single by
Colin Long in the sixth made it 5-3. IU Southeast loaded the bases with no outs but failed to bring in another run.
Reinhardt scored three runs in the eighth and five runs in the ninth to secure a 13-3 win.
Nolan Bowser,
Trevor Goodwin,
Hazel Martinez, and
Colin Long all had two hits.
Trevor Goodwin and
Cole Reynolds both stole a base.
Brendan Whalen took his first loss of the season, allowing five runs in six innings.
Luke Shelton,
Daly Skees, and
Zak Rasener threw in relief.
An RBI single by
Logan Beard in the bottom of the first of game two put IU Southeast ahead 1-0. An RBI single by
Hazel Martinez made it 2-0, and an RBI fielder's choice by
Colin Long made it 3-0. Martinez came around to score on a balk to make it 4-0 Grenadiers.
An RBI single by
Logan Beard in the second put IU Southeast ahead 5-0. A two-RBI single by
Hazel Martinez made it 7-0. An RBI double by
Colin Long put IU Southeast ahead 8-0, and an RBI single by
Logan Murphy made it 9-0. An RBI single by
Cole Reynolds put IU Southeast ahead 10-0, and a sacrifice fly by
Nolan Bowser made it 11-0.
An RBI double by
Hazel Martinez put IU Southeast ahead 12-0 in the third. An RBI single by
Nolan Bowser in the fourth made it 13-0, and a grand slam by
Jack Ellis put IU Southeast ahead 17-0, which would be the final score.
Hazel Martinez led IU Southeast with four hits, including a double, and four RBI.
Jack Ellis also had four RBI with the grand slam.
Colin Long doubled, and
Grant Shepherd stole a base.
Luca Sandrella got the start and the win, throwing five scoreless innings.
Cade Rusch and
Nick Pazos threw scoreless innings in relief.
"I like how the guys responded in game two today," IU Southeast head coach
Brett Neffendorf said. "Pitching did a great job limiting baserunners so we could keep our bats on the field."
IU Southeast moves to 23-9 overall. The Grenadiers travel to Eastern Illinois for a game on Wednesday.
