NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The 16
th ranked IU Southeast baseball team cruised to an 11-1 win over Midway in the series opener on Friday to extend their winning streak to 10.
Midway took a 1-0 lead in the second on a solo home run.
An RBI fielder's choice by
Colin Long in the second tied the game at 1-1. An RBI single by
Cole Reynolds gave IU Southeast a 2-1 lead.
A two-RBI double by
Hazel Martinez in the third put IU Southeast ahead 4-1. Another RBI single by
Cole Reynolds made it 5-1. An RBI single by
Ethan Burdette put IU Southeast ahead 6-1. Two runs scored on an error to make it 8-1, and an RBI double by
Preston Shelton gave the Grenadiers a 9-1 edge. An RBI groundout by
Colin Long extended the IU Southeast lead to 10-1.
An RBI single in the bottom of the seventh by
Joel Johnson secured an 11-1 run-rule win in seven innings for IU Southeast.
"All around good game tonight," IU Southeast head coach
Brett Neffendorf said. "The pitching did a great job of filling up the zone and the offense was very good tonight driving in runs and squaring up mistakes."
Preston Shelton and
Cole Reynolds each had three hits in the win. Reynolds, Martinez, and
Colin Long each drove in two runs. IU Southeast had five doubles in the contest. Reynolds stole two bases, and Shelton stole one.
Gavin Gentry got the start and the win, throwing five innings of one-run ball while striking out three.
Zak Rasener threw two scoreless innings in relief.
No. 16 IU Southeast (12-5, 4-0 RSC) looks to continue their torrid place with a doubleheader against Midway on Saturday.
