NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The 16
th ranked IU Southeast baseball team split a doubleheader against Midway on Saturday, but secured a series win to move to 5-1 in RSC play.
IU Southeast scored first in game one. An RBI single in the first by
Trevor Goodwin put IU Southeast ahead 1-0.
An RBI double by
Logan Murphy in the second put IU Southeast up 2-0. An RBI single by
Nolan Bowser made it 3-0 Grenadiers.
Midway scored two in the third to make it 3-2. Midway threw out an IU Southeast runner at the plate in the third to keep the score 3-2.
A run scored in the bottom of the fourth on an error to give IU Southeast a 4-2 lead. An RBI single by
Logan Beard put IU Southeast up 5-2. Midway threw another runner out at the plate to keep the score 5-2.
Midway got a run back in the fifth to make it 5-3.
A sacrifice fly by
Logan Beard in the sixth put IU Southeast up 6-3.
Midway scored four runs in the ninth to stun IU Southeast 7-6.
Ethan Burdette led IU Southeast with four hits.
Logan Beard drove in two runs.
Hazel Martinez and
Logan Murphy doubled. Burdette stole two bags and Beard stole one.
Brendan Whalen got the start, allowing three runs in seven innings.
Luke Shelton threw a scoreless inning.
Gavin Sebby took the loss, allowing four runs.
Nick Pazos got the final two outs of the ninth.
IU Southeast scored first in game two as well. An RBI double by
Jack Ellis put IU Southeast ahead 1-0.
In the third, an RBI single by
Preston Shelton put the Grenadiers up 2-0.
A two-RBI single by
Ethan Burdette put IU Southeast ahead 4-0 in the fourth.
Logan Murphy delivered a two-RBI single in the fifth to put IU Southeast ahead 6-0.
Midway scored a run in the sixth, but IU Southeast would go on to win 6-1 in seven innings.
Ethan Burdette and
Jack Ellis each had two hits. Burdette and
Logan Murphy drove in two runs. Ellis had the lone extra base hit, a double.
Cole Reynolds stole a base in the win.
Luca Sandrella got the start and the win, allowing just one run in six innings.
Cade Rusch threw a scoreless seventh to secure the win.
"Left too many runners in scoring position in game one," IU Southeast head coach
Brett Neffendorf said. "We failed to cash in on several opportunities and it caught up to us. Game two our pitchers limited traffic on the bases. Good to pick up a series win."
No. 16 IU Southeast (13-6, 5-1 RSC) hosts Indiana Tech for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
