SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team swept SMWC in a doubleheader on Saturday.
IU Southeast scored first in game one. A two-run home run by
Sofia Guy put the Grenadiers ahead 2-0.
SMWC tied the game in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run.
An RBI groundout by
Sofia Guy put IU Southeast ahead 3-2 in the third. An RBI groundout by
McKenzie Walters made it 4-2 Grenadiers.
SMWC scored a run in the third to make it 4-3.
An RBI single by
Savannah Gaither gave IU Southeast a 5-3 lead in the fourth.
Chloee Shewmaker delivered a two-RBI double in the fifth to make it 7-3 IU Southeast.
A two-RBI single by
Lillian Mackey in the sixth put IU Southeast ahead 9-3. A
Sofia Guy RBI single put IU Southeast ahead 10-3.
An RBI double by
Alaina Winzeler put the Grenadiers ahead 11-3 in the seventh. An RBI single by
Josie Lemmons made it 12-3, and an RBI single by
Lillian Mackey made it 13-3. An RBI single by
Kaitlyn Leister extended the lead to 14-3, which would be the final score.
Lillian Mackey,
Sofia Guy, and
Chloee Shewmaker each had three hits. Guy had four RBI, and Mackey had three. Shewmaker and
Alaina Winzeler doubled, and Guy hit a home run.
Josie Lemmons and
Savannah Gaither each stole two bases, and Mackey and Guy each had one stolen base apiece.
Emma Davis got the start and the win, allowing one earned run in seven innings while striking out five.
IU Southeast got on the board first in game two as well. An RBI groundout by
Lillian Mackey put IU Southeast ahead 1-0. A sacrifice fly by
Sofia Guy made it 2-0 Grenadiers.
The score remained 2-0 until the fifth. A two-RBI double by
McKenzie Walters put IU Southeast ahead 4-0.
An RBI single by
Josie Lemmons put IU Southeast ahead 5-0 in the sixth.
SMWC scored two in the sixth to make it 5-2.
A sacrifice fly by
McKenzie Walters in the seventh put IU Southeast ahead 6-2, which would go on to be the final score.
Josie Lemmons,
Sofia Guy, and
Kaitlyn Leister each had two hits.
McKenzie Walters led IU Southeast with three RBI. Guy, Leister, Walters, and
Grace Stapleton doubled, and Leister tripled.
Alaina Winzeler stole the lone base for IU Southeast.
Hannah Nunemaker got the start and the win for IU Southeast, allowing two runs in seven innings of work.
"Great two wins today," IU Southeast interim head coach
Erin Templeman said. "Pitchers threw great, and we were effective at the plate."
IU Southeast (7-5, 5-1 RSC) return home for a doubleheader against Georgetown on Tuesday.
