No. 10 IU Southeast Concludes Regular Season with Doubleheader Sweep of WVU Tech

BECKLEY, W. Va. – The tenth ranked IU Southeast baseball team swept WVU Tech in a doubleheader on Saturday.
 
An RBI double by Hazel Martinez in the top of the first of game one gave IU Southeast 1-0 lead.
 
An RBI triple by Ethan Burdette in the second gave IU Southeast a 2-0 lead. A two-run home run by Logan Beard put the Grenadiers up 4-0. An RBI groundout by Trevor Goodwin made it 5-0, and a passed ball allowed another run to score to make it 6-0 IU Southeast.
 
WVU Tech scored two runs in the sixth to make it 6-2. The Golden Bears scored three runs in the eighth and another run in the ninth to tie the game at 6-6 and send the game into extra innings.
 
WVU Tech loaded the bases with one out in the tenth, but Aiden Darlage struck out back-to-back batters to escape the jam.
 
The game remained tied until the 13th inning. A run came around to score to give IU Southeast a 7-6 lead. A perfectly placed bunt by Nolan Bowser allowed another run to score to make it 8-6. Two more runs scored on another error to give the Grenadiers a 10-6 lead. An RBI double by Preston Shelton put IU Southeast ahead 11-6, which would be the final score.
 
Ethan Burdette, Logan Beard, and Preston Shelton all had three hits. Shelton doubled twice, and Beard and Hazel Martinez both had a double apiece. Burdette tripled, and Beard homered. Coulter Hamilton stole a base.
 
Luca Sandrella got the start, allowing two runs in six innings while striking out six. Zak Rasener allowed two runs in 1.1 innings, and Luke Shelton allowed one earned run in an inning. Oscar Welsh and Nick Pazos combined to throw the ninth. Cade Rusch threw a third of an inning. Aiden Darlage got the win, throwing 3.2 scoreless innings in relief while striking out six.
 
A two-RBI single by Preston Shelton in the top of the first of game two gave IU Southeast a 2-0 lead.
 
The game remained 2-0 until the fifth, when WVU Tech hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 2-1. Another home run in the sixth tied the game at 2-2.
 
A two-RBI single in the seventh by Ethan Burdette gave IU Southeast a 4-2 lead, which would be the final score.
 
Colin Long led IU Southeast with two hits and a stolen base. Preston Shelton and Ethan Burdette both had two RBI apiece. Hazel Martinez and Trevor Goodwin both doubled.
 
Daly Skees got the start, allowing one run in 4.1 innings. Conner Christopher V picked up the win, allowing one run in 2.2 innings.

No. 10 IU Southeast finishes the regular season 30-14 overall and 17-6 in RSC play. The Grenadiers will be the two seed in the upcoming RSC Tournament in Chillicothe, Ohio.
