IU Southeast Splits Doubleheader with SMWC

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team split a doubleheader with SMWC on Wednesday.

SMWC scored three runs in the first inning of game one to take a 3-0 lead. Neither team scored for the rest of the game as the Pomeroys took game one 3-0.

IU Southeast only had three hits in game one. Alaina Winzeler doubled in the loss.

Emma Davis took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in seven innings of work.

Game two saw the first runs scored in the bottom of the second. A bases-clearing triple by Savannah Gaither gave IU Southeast a 3-0 lead.

SMWC scored two runs in the third to make it 3-2, but neither team would score for the remainder of the game as the Grenadiers clinched a doubleheader split with a 3-2 win.

Lillian Mackey and Sofia Guy each had two hits. McKenzie Walters doubled, and Savannah Gaither tripled and drove in all three runs.

Hannah Nunemaker got the win, allowing two runs on three hits.

"Game one, hitters didn't execute," IU Southeast interim head coach Erin Templeman said. "Game two, Sav came in clutch with a three-run triple. We need to do a better job making adjustments at the plate early on."

IU Southeast moves to 20-10 overall and 16-6 in RSC play. The Grenadiers return to action on Saturday at Shawnee State.
