HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The four seed IU Southeast fell to the three seed British Columbia 14-4 in seven innings in the NAIA Opening Round on Tuesday.
British Columbia took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
In the top of the fourth, an RBI double by
Ethan Burdette made it 3-1. An RBI groundout by
Trevor Goodwin made it 3-2.
British Columbia scored two more in the fourth to extend their lead to 5-2.
IU Southeast scored a run in the fifth on a wild pitch to make it 5-3, but British Columbia exploded for eight runs in the fifth to take a 13-3 lead.
British Columbia would go on to win 14-4 in seven innings.
"Obviously disappointed with the result," IU Southeast head coach
Brett Neffendorf said. "Need to execute and play our game tomorrow."
Nolan Bowser led IU Southeast with three hits.
Hazel Martinez and
Ethan Burdette doubled.
Brendan Whalen took the loss, allowing four earned runs in four innings.
Conner Christopher V,
Daly Skees,
Zak Rasener, and
Gavin Gentry all threw in relief.
IU Southeast takes on No. 11 Oklahoma Wesleyan in an elimination game on Wednesday.
