SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team fell to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in five sets on Saturday.
IU Southeast led 13-7 in the first set, but SMWC roared back to tie the set at 19-19. The Grenadiers led 23-21, but four straight points by the Pomeroys gave SMWC a 25-23 first set win.
The second set was tied at 9-9 before IU Southeast stormed ahead to take a 17-11 lead. The Grenadiers would take the second set 25-17.
The third set saw the teams tied at 11-11, but SMWC closed the set on a 14-4 run to take the set 25-15.
Set four saw IU Southeast take an early lead on four straight aces by
Reagan Ealy. SMWC came back to take an 11-10 lead, but the Grenadiers scored six straight points to take a 16-11 advantage. IU Southeast would take the second set 25-22.
The fifth set was incredibly back-and-forth as the set was tied on 11 different occasions, but it was the Pomeroys who took the fifth set 15-13 and the match 3-2.
Ella Brooks led IU Southeast with 18 kills, and
Nicole Stratford added 15.
Carly Mason had a team-high 42 assists and was second on the team with 15 digs.
Ella Davidson had a team-high 17 digs.
Madison Ramsey had 4.0 blocks, and
Addyson Schneider had 3.0.
Reagan Ealy led the Grenadiers with four service aces.
"We were challenged this weekend in ways we haven't been this season," IU Southeast head coach Taylor Wilson-Evanczyk said. "We know what we have to work on and what we have to do to prepare for Friday. Excited to be back home."
IU Southeast falls to 10-3 overall and 3-2 in RSC play. The Grenadiers return to action for a home match against WVU Tech on October 3.
