Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 25 Cougars Spoil Grenadiers' Home Opener

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - IU Southeast women's basketball was defeated 79-43 by No. 25 Spring Arbor Wednesday night at the IUS Activities Building.

After Spring Arbor jumped out to an early lead, Morgan Roberts and Shaylee Barrett sunk back-to-back threes to cut the Cougars' lead to 9-6. Barrett's three-pointer would be the last points the Grenadier offense would score until the 8:51 mark of the second quarter.

During IU Southeast's scoring draught, the Cougars went on an 18-0 run. A made layup by Barrett ended the scoreless draught, but it did not end the Cougars' offensive attack. After Barrett's layup made it 27-8, Spring Arbor then went on a 13-0 run. At the end of the first half, IU Southeast trailed 44-18.

IU Southeast's offensive struggles continued into the third quarter. The third quarter saw the Grenadiers score just nine points and shoot 24% from the field. IU Southeast's best scoring and shooting quarter came in the game's final stanza, where the Grenadiers scored 16 points and shot 43% from the field. Precious Anuka scored nine of her 17 points tonight in the fourth quarter and Ella Brown scored all five of her points in the fourth quarter. The Cougars would go onto win this game 79-43.

Anuka led IU Southeast in scoring with 17 points, followed by Morgan Roberts with 12. Jericho Hopper had six rebounds and Alyssa Murphy had three assists.

IU Southeast drops to 0-2 following Wednesday's loss to Spring Arbor. Grenadier women's basketball will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 4 for a 5:30 p.m. home game against No. 11 Georgetown.
