Volleyball bested by No. 25 IU Kokomo

KOKOMO, Ind. - IU Southeast volleyball lost its first River States Conference match of the season Friday night, falling to No. 25 IU Kokomo in three sets.  

Natalie Pierce and Kylea Donoho led the Grenadier offense with six kills each, and Donoho led the team with 3.0 blocks. Ella Davidson had three serving aces, a game high. Esther Woodward and Carly Mason had 12 kills each, and Nicole Stratford led IU Southeast's back line with 13 digs.  

Grenadier volleyball is now 6-10 (3-1 RSC) following Friday night's loss to the Cougars. Next up for Coach Taylor Wilson-Evanczyk's squad is a Saturday trip to Saint Mary of the Woods for a 1:00 p.m. match with the Pomeroys.  

Set 1: IU Kokomo 25, IU Southeast 22 

IU Kokomo jumped out to a 6-2 lead but the Grenadiers went on a 6-3 run to make it 9-8. The Cougars responded by scoring nine of the next 11 points. Trailing 18-10, IU Southeast went on a big scoring run that saw them rattle off six straight points, then three of four to tie the score at 19-19. Despite tying the score, the Grenadiers were unable to take the lead. The Cougars would go onto win the set and take a 1-0 match lead.  

Set 2: IU Kokomo 25, IU Southeast 18 

The Grenadiers trailed 11-9 early in the second set before the Cougars went on a run and pulled away for good. IU Kokomo went on a 6-1 run and led 17-10. IU Southeast cut the lead to five points multiple times but would not get any closer, and the Cougars won set two.  

Set 3: IU Kokomo 25, IU Southeast 18 

The Grenadiers and the Cougars split the first 16 points of set three, but it was the Cougars who went on to score 11 of the next 16 points and led 19-13 late. IU Southeast made it interesting with a 6-2 run to cut the Cougars' lead to 20-18 but would not get any closer. IU Kokomo closed out the set with a 5-0 run and would win the match 3-0.
