NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team pulled away late in the first half and cruised to an 82-62 win over Oakland City on Senior Day.
Seniors
Camden Pfeister had 17 points and
Nathaniel Hoffman added 15 points.
Trent Hinkle had 13 in the win.
Oakland City led 19-18 in a back-and-forth opening 10 minutes of the contest. Then
Nathaniel Hoffman hit consecutive three-pointers to put IU Southeast in front 24-19 with 6:31 to play in the half.
After an Oakland City miss,
Cole Thomas hit a three to extend the lead.
After Quade Morton cut the lead to 27-22, Thomas hit another three and then was tripped on a flagrant foul and hit both free throws. IU Southast kept the ball and
Camden Pfeister scored to extend the lead to 34-22.
A three-point play by senior
Ethan Haddaway followed by a steal by
Trent Hinkle and layup by Pfeister extended the lead to 14.
IU Southeast led 43-27 at halftime.
Nathaniel Hoffman had 12 points and
Camden Pfeister added 10 in the first half.
In the second half, senior
Brady Schuler hit the first of his three second-half three-pointers to push the lead to 46-27.
Oakland City cut the deficit to 14 on a couple of occasions but timely threes by Hinkle and Pfeister did not allow the Mighty Oaks to get closer.
The Grenadiers shot 47 percent from the field and were 14-of-28 from three-point range which proved to be the difference as Oakland City was just 6-of-24.
IU Southeast will host a quarterfinal matchup in the River States Conference tournament on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The bracket will be announced later this weekend.
