TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team outscored St. Mary-of-the-Woods 22-1 in the first quarter en route to a 66-34 win.
The Grenadiers held the Pomeroys to just 11 points in the first half. They forced 12 first-half turnovers and held SMWC to four made field goals in the opening 20 minutes.
Linzie Wernert had 21 points and 13 rebounds and
Jesse Ledgerwood had 14 points. The duo combined for 19 of the Grenadiers' 22 points in the first quarter.
The Grenadiers did not allow a made field goal until the game was almost 13 minutes old. By that point, IU Southeast led 24-3.
The Grenadiers led 34-11 at halftime.
The second half was more of the same as the Grenadiers smothered the Pomeroys offensive attack, holding them to just five made field goals in the second half.
The Grenadiers had 15 steals in the game, led by
Grace Stapleton's seven. IU Southeast scored 27 points off of 23 turnovers.
IU Southeast hosts Kentucky Christian Saturday at 1 p.m. Senior Day festivities will begin at 12:50 p.m. Admission is free on Alumni Day.
