NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The No. 23 IU Southeast baseball team honored its 2026 senior class before defeating IU Columbus 8-3 Friday night to complete the series sweep of the Crimson Pride.
Kevin Moore scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning after Bryson Arnette grounded out. The Grenadiers tacked on two more in the fourth after Joel Johnson hit an infield single, then Moore hit a sacrifice fly.
The Grenadiers pulled away in the sixth inning. Leading 3-1 with one out and Kasen Parks standing at second base, Joel Johnson doubled to make it 4-1, then scored after a double by Moore. Moore scored shortly after Arnette hit a two-run double. After six innings, the Grenadiers led 7-1. IU Southeast added another run in the seventh after Joel Johnson hit another infield single.
The Crimson Pride made a push in the eighth, registering three hits and plating a pair of runs. With two outs and runners on second and third, Slade Douthett and the Grenadier defense slammed the door on IU Columbus's comeback bid after Coulter Hamilton caught a line out to end the top of the eighth.
Jack Skidmore checked into the game in the ninth and retired the Crimson Pride in order to send out seniors Kannon Stull, Slade Douthett, Joel Johnson, Gavin Sebby, Tucker Shalley, Brendan Whalen, Bryson Arnette, and Trevor Goodwin out with a win.
Brendan Whalen got the start on the mound for IU Southeast and got another win. Whalen, who was last week's RSC Pitcher of the Week, improved to 6-0 on the season after going 5.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits and five strikeouts.
IU Southeast improved to 26-10 overall and 15-3 following Friday's win over the Crimson Pride. The Grenadiers will hit the diamond again on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. game against the Campbellsville Tigers at the Koetter Sports Baseball Complex.
