Baseball downs Midway; advances in RSC Tournament

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – IU Southeast baseball stayed in the winner's side of the bracket after winning 11-4 over Midway in game three of the 2026 RSC Baseball Tournament. The Grenadiers' win eliminated Midway.  

The Grenadiers loaded the bases in the bottom of the second after a single by Bryson Arnette, a walk by Gabe Yonto, then a single by Alex Schuler. Kemper Whisman hit a ball over the right field wall for the grand slam and a 4-0 lead just two innings in. Trevor Goodwin made it 5-0 after a solo home run one inning later.  

Midway got on the board in the fourth, then added three more in the fifth. IU Southeast countered with four runs in the fifth, all scored with two outs. Goodwin got the rally started with a double, Arnette singled, then Yonto was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  

Goodwin and Arnette both scored after a wild pitch and a throwing error. Yonto advanced to third on the errant throw, then scored after a single by Whisman. The Grenadiers scored again after another wild pitch and led 9-4 after five innings.  

IU Southeast scored two more in the sixth. Konnor Scheidt led off the inning with a pinch hit double. Bryce Elder checked in as a pinch runner, stole third, then scored after a sacrifice fly by Joel Johnson. Later in the frame, Arnette hit a two-out double to make the score 11-4.  

Brendan Whalen got the start and the win on the mound after pitching 6.0 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and five strikeouts. Aiden Darlage pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless relief, and Joey Merrick pitched 1.0 inning to finish off the game.  

The Grenadiers will be back in action Saturday at 11:00 a.m. for game seven of the 2026 River States Conference Tournament. IU Southeast will play the winner of No. 2 Oaklnad City and No. 4 Shawnee State.
