NEW ALBANY, Ind. - IU Southeast volleyball was defeated 3-0 by No. 21 Cumberlands Tuesday night at the IUS Activities Building.
Avynn Belding led IU Southeast with 11 kills and Lake Butiste had two serving aces. Carly Mason led the Grenadiers with 22 assists and 15 digs. Raegan Glover and Jordan Vaughan had 2.0 blocks each.
The Grenadiers are 5-9 (2-0 RSC) following Tuesday night's loss to the Patriots. Coach Taylor Wilson-Evanczyk's squad will hit the road Saturday for a River States Conference match against IU Columbus. Saturday's game between IU Southeast and IU Columbus will start at 1:00 p.m.
Set 1: Cumberlands 25, IU Southeast 20
Cumberlands jumped out to an early 8-3 lead and kept up the scoring. The Patriots continued to extend their lead and held a 17-8 lead midway through set one. Later, the Grenadiers trailed 24-15 and made a small comeback, rattling off five points in a row. Despite the late push, the Patriots took set one after a serving error.
Set 2: Cumberlands 25, IU Southeast 15
IU Southeast and Cumberlands split the first 20 points of set two before the Patriots went on a long run. UC went on a 9-2 run to go up 19-12, then scored six of the next nine points to close out the set. Cumberlands led the match 2-0.
Set 3: Cumberlands 25, IU Southeast 21
IU Southeast scored eight of the first 12 points, and the Patriots responded with a 11-7 run to tie the score at 15-15. Cumberlands kept their momentum going with an 8-3 run to go up 23-18. The Grenadiers scored back-to-back points but were unable to finish off the comeback. Cumberlands won the set 25-21 and won the match 3-0.
