DECATUR, Ala. - (
Tournament Scoreboard) The IU Southeast softball team lost its first pool play game on Thursday (5/20) at the 2010 NAIA Softball National Championship. The Grenadiers fell to the 2008 National Champion Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps 6-0 at the Morgan Wilson Sports Complex in Decatur, Ala.
Indiana University Southeast (33-13) struggled to get its bats going throughout the game. Lubbock Christian (53-6) pitcher Alyssa Gutierrez threw a complete game for the Lady Chaps only allow five hits. Gutierrez struck out six Grenadiers with a walk in seven innings of work.
Lubbock Christian hit a game-high .364 as a team compared to the Grenadiers .192 team batting average.
Grenadier senior
Shana Andres hit one of only two extra base hits for the Grenadiers on the day with a triple.
Nicole Mills recorded a double for the Grenadiers.
Kayla Duke picked up the loss giving up three earned runs in the first inning.
With the loss, the Grenadiers go to 0-1 in pool play.
IU Southeast will take on Bethel College (Ind.) tomorrow at 3 p.m. (ET) as pool play continues.
There are eight pools composed of four teams each. Pool play will take place on four fields May 20 - 22, with the pool winners advancing to an eight-team double-elimination bracket that will be played out May 24 - 26.
The 2010 champion will be crowned on May 26.
