Grenadiers Hang On To Beat Midway On Senior Day

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Heather Wheat had a huge game as the Grenadiers defeated Midway College 67-61 on Senior Day to clinch the KIAC South Division No. 2 seed.

Wheat had 26 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals and a block in her final regular season home game. Mary Dye had her second-straight double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and fellow senior Megan Cureton made key plays in the second half and finished with 10 points.

Wheat kept the Grenadiers in the game in the first half, scoring 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting. IU Southeast (19-11, 9-6 KIAC) led 23-19 at halftime.

Wheat made it a 28-19 lead 90 seconds into the second half, and broke the 2,000 career point threshold on a three-pointer from the top of the key.

The lead was cut to 52-47 with five minutes to play and Megan Cureton took over and sealed the game by scoring seven straight points. She grabbed two steals and finished with layups to make it a 56-47 game. A Midway jumper by Me"lisa Martinez made it 56-49, but Cureton answered that with a three from the wing.

Miranda Rone hit two three-pointers late to make the game close but the Grenadiers their free throws down the stretch.

With the win, the Grenadiers clinch the No. 2 seed in the KIAC South Division. They will host KIAC North No. 3 seed IU East at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in a KIAC Quarterfinal.
