KENNEDY TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The IU Southeast softball team finished its Pittsburgh road trip in dominant fashion on Sunday by sweeping Carlow University 10-1 and 9-1.
In game one, the Grenadiers put the game away with a six-run second inning. Jessica Leanhart and Morgan Klosterman each hit two-run RBI singles in the frame. Two more runs scored on a dropped third strike and wild throw by catcher Nicole George.
IU Southeast (21-5, 13-3 KIAC) added four more in the third. After Brookelyn Visker reached on a walk and Katelyn Heines bunted for a base hit, Cadie Povaleri hit a two-run double to left. Then Alyssa Price brought in Leanhart and Montanah Rogers on a single.
Leanhart worked four innings, and gave up a run on two hits. She struck out eight and walked one.
Katelyn Heines went 3-for-3 in the win and Alyssa Price went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In game two, the Grenadiers struck for two runs in the first inning. Price singled to score Morgan Klosterman who had reached on a fielder's choice. Heines doubled to score Price.
The Grenadiers would add five more runs in the second. Montanah Rogers started the inning with an RBI single. Morgan Klosterman knocked in her sister, Lauren with an RBI single. Price added a two-run single. Visker capped off the inning with another RBI single to score Price.
Leanhart picked up her second win of the day, working four inning. She gave up three hits and one run, and struck out two.
Price went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the win.
The Grenadiers travel to Asbury University on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
