NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team led 27-9 after the first quarter and roared away from Midway 95-48 on Tuesday night. Five Grenadiers scored in double figures, including four starters.
Annie Thomas led the Grenadiers with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Mary Dye had 15 points and six rebounds. Michaela Harris added 14 points, six rebounds and three steals and Jocelyn Mousty had 11 points and seven rebounds. Baylee Krueger was solid off the bench, scoring 10 points and grabbing three rebounds.
The Grenadiers' smothering defense forced 19 turnovers and held the Eagles to 30 percent shooting from the field. IU Southeast held the Eagles to 4-of-17 shooting (24 percent) from behind-the-arc.
IU Southeast (9-9, 6-3 KIAC) scored 27 points off of turnovers in the game. They dominated in the paint, outscoring Midway 44-22 and on the boards 54-34. They capitalized on the rebounding advantage, outscoring Midway 27-2 in second chance points.
The Grenadiers shot 47 percent from the field in the game and limited their turnovers with 10 on the night.
IU Southeast led 50-22 at the half after Thomas hit one of her five three-pointers at the buzzer. The Grenadiers would extend their lead to as many as 48 in the second half.
The Grenadiers host Alice Lloyd Saturday at 1 p.m.
