Grenadiers Drop Two To Cardinal Stritch Sunday

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team had chances but could not get past Cardinal Stritch as they were swept in a Sunday doubleheader.

In game one, the Grenadiers responded by surrendering the game's first run by scoring four in the bottom of the first. Montanah Rogers walked and eventually scored on a double steal. Then Caroline Cato hit a two-run single and later scored on Shannon Caliri's throwing error.

The Wolves took the lead for good in the top of the fourth inning. After a wild throw by starter Caroline Cato loaded the bases, Erica Kramer hit a two-run double and would later score from third when Alyssa Stube got caught in a rundown.

Cardinal Stritch scored once in the sixth and pulled away with three in the seventh.

Justice Kline went 1-for-3 and scored a run in the loss. Caroline Cato worked all seven innings, surrendering 11 hits and nine runs. She struck out four and walked four.

Game two was a pitcher's duel. IU Southeast starter Emily Weiss had a no-hitter through six innings in her home debut.

IU Southeast threatened in the bottom of the second when hit a one-out double to left center, but she was stranded at third.

The game was scoreless through seven innings and Cardinal Stritch finally strung hits together in the eighth to get the win.

The Wolves hit four-straight singles which plated all three of their runs. Weiss worked all eight innings and took the loss. She gave up five hits and three runs, walked a batter and struck out three.

The Grenadiers host St. Catharine Wednesday at 2 p.m.
