NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's tennis team hung on to defeat Georgetown College 5-4 on Senior Day.
The Grenadiers (11-10) picked up wins at two out of three doubles positions. Seniors Nick Roby and Trent Wallace won 8-5 over Cole McCreary and Ryo Takeda at No. 1 doubles. Bryson Mills and Jacob Rankin defeated Austin Colliver and Kaushik Kailsh 8-5.
In singles play, Georgetown took three singles matches in quick fashion. Jacob Rankin responded after dropping his first set, 7-6, with a pair of 6-2 victories and Bryson Mills won 6-4, 7-5 to tie the match at four.
That set the stage for Jonathan James who dropped his first set 7-6, but came back with a 6-2 win in the second set. He was up 4-1 in the third before Ryan Simms cut the lead to 5-4. Simms hit a return into the net on match point as James hung on for the win.
Seniors Austin LaFollette, Nick Roby and Trent Wallace were honored prior to the match.
IU Southeast travels to Indiana Wesleyan on Friday for the Doc Richards Classic.
