NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team pushed its winning streak to eight games with a 4-0 and 9-1 wins over Cincinnati Christian Saturday.
In game one, the game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. Hannah Veit hit a sacrifice fly to left-center to bring in Sydney Seger.
The Grenadiers (18-11, 7-1 KIAC) added three more runs in the fifth. Brookelyn Visker hit a two-run home run to left, her fourth of the season, to make it 3-0. Visker's home run ties for the career lead in home runs at IU Southeast. Later in the inning, Tatum Oppenhuis hit an RBI single to score Montanah Rogers.
Emily Weiss shut down the Eagle offense throughout. She had a perfect game until she hit a batter in the sixth and did not allow a hit until there were two outs in the seventh and Bailey Blair singled to center.
Sydney Seger went 3-for-3 with a run scored.
In game two, the Grenadiers put the game away with a seven-run first inning.
After Seger drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Becca Schoenung and Visker slid in safely ahead of a throw from short,, Hannah Veit hit a two-run double to right-center and Justice Kline doubled to right to bring in two more runs. An error on a wild throw from short brought in another run to make it 7-0.
Caroline Cato gave up one runs on four hits while walking four and striking out seven in five innings of work.
Brooke Barnett and Becca Schoenung each went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
The Grenadiers travel to Midway College Tuesday at 4 p.m.
