Grenadiers Fall To Asbury At The Buzzer 81-79

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team led by as many as 10 points in the second half but could not hang on as Shelby McDonald got a steal and game-winning basket at the buzzer to defeat IU Southeast 81-79.

Baylee Krueger had a career-high 19 points and seven rebounds to lead IU Southeast. Aaliyah Bell had 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field. Lauren Camm had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Ashley Lyninger added 10 points and six rebounds.

The Grenadiers (7-5, 2-2 RSC) could not compete with Asbury three-point attack but were able to hit some shots in the paint to keep it close. IU Southeast trailed 35-30 at halftime.

IU Southeast outscored the Eagles 29-16 in the third quarter to take the lead 59-49 late in the third quarter. The Grenadiers led 59-51 heading to the fourth quarter.

Asbury outscored IU Southeast 30-20 in the fourth quarter which was capped off by Shelby McDonald steal and score to win it.

With the game tied at 79 and five seconds to play, McDonald stole the ball at midcourt and drove to the basket to hit a shot at the buzzer.

McDonald had a game-high 23 points and Bailey Brown added 19 points.

Asbury shot 57 percent (13-of-23) from behind-the-arc in the game shot 50 percent from the field in the second half. IU Southeast shot 42 percent from the field in the game but could not keep up with the Eagles' perimeter shooting. IU Southeast shot just 7-of-23 (30 percent) from three-point range.

IU Southeast travels to Miami-Hamilton Dec. 29 at 5:30 p.m.
