Grenadiers Split Doubleheader With Spalding

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team split a doubleheader with Spalding on Thursday, defeating the Eagles 4-2 before falling 11-8 in the nightcap.

Game one was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Kyndyl Olds hit an inside-the-park home run in the left field corner for her first collegiate home run.

IU Southeast (11-17) added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Justice Kline led off with a single, advanced to second when Morgan Keefer was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a wild pitch. Keefer stole second and Kline came in to score on the throw. Emily Gray followed with a RBI single to right to bring in Keefer. Gray would later score on a wild pitch.

The Eagles (7-9) scored two runs in the top of the 7th on a two-run single from Brooke Lamon but she was tagged out advancing to second to end the threat.

Emily Gray picked up her sixth win of the season in relief of Becca Schoenung. Gray worked three innings and gave up two runs on three hits. She walked a batter and struck out two.

Kyndyl Olds and Sydney Seger each had two hits in the win.

In game two, the Eagles struck for seven runs in the top of the first to chase starter Bailey Sharp. Samantha Klein and Mackenzie Henderson each had two-run singles in the inning.

IU Southeast trailed 9-0 before getting on the board with three runs in the bottom of the third.

The Grenadiers had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh but Kyndyl Olds hit a line drive right back to the pitcher, Amber Kilburn who doubled off Emily Hollis at first to end the game.

Kyndyl Olds, Emily Hollis, Justice Kline and Kaylin Klosterman each had three hits in the loss.

The Grenadiers outhit the Eagles 17-11 but could not overcome the seven-run first inning.
