Grenadiers Sweep Cincinnati Christian Friday

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team extended its winning streak to 10 games with a doubleheader sweep of Cincinnati Christian, 2-0 and 7-6 on Friday.

In game one, starters Emily Weiss and Jessica Tinsley were locked in a scoreless draw until the fifth inning.

Becca Schoenung led off the inning with a walk and Clara Shean brought her in with a RBI double to left-center. Shean stole third and scored on a wild throw by the catcher Shelby Davis.

That was enough for starter Emily Weiss (9-4) who scattered six hits for a complete-game shutout.

She worked out of trouble in the first inning with a runner on third with one out and had the bases loaded in the second with two outs but got of both jams unscathed.

In game two, the Grenadiers led 4-0 after three innings. In the bottom of the first, Maggie Lubbehusen hit a RBI single to bring in Kyndyl Olds who had singled to open the scoring.

In the second, IU Southeast tacked on three runs when Baylee Krueger walked and later scored on a wild pitch. Lindsey Keen singled and scored on a RBI double from Olds and she scored on a RBI single by Ashtyn Sharp.

The Eagles (15-14, 5-7 RSC) cut the lead in half in the fourth and added another run in the fifth when Ashleigh Campbell got a sacrifice bunt down to score Addison Rouse from third.

The Grenadiers (18-10, 10-2 RSC) got a run back in the bottom of the inning with another Lubbehusen RBI single.

An RBI double from Shelby Davis in the sixth made it a one-run game once again but a two-run double by Sydney Seger gave IU Southeast some breathing room.

They would need it as Emma Kawaiaea singled to left to score a pair. Emily Weiss was able to strike out Faith Harris with the bases loaded to end the game.

Weiss earned the win in relief of Schoenung. Kyndyl Olds and Sharp each went 3-for-4 in the win.
