NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team had six players in double figures and every Grenadier scored as IU Southeast defeated St. Mary-of-the-Woods 115-83 on Tuesday.
Ariana Sandefur had 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead IU Southeast. Lauren Lambdin added 18 points and four blocks. Josie Woods had a career-high 16 points and career-high 10 rebounds, Madi Woods had 15 points, Natalie Fichter had 13 points, five rebounds and five assists, Gabriella Read had a career-high 12 points.
The Grenadiers (2-0) outscored the Pomeroys 40-2 in fast-break points on the night as IU Southeast was able to capitalize on the full-court pressing style of the Pomeroys.
IU Southeast led 53-43 at halftime and could not pull away for much of the third quarter. In fact, the IU Southeast lead was cut to 63-58 with five minutes left in the period.
The Grenadiers closed the quarter on a 23-5 run to put the game away. Ariana Sandefur and Lauren Lambdin sparked the Grenadiers in the second half, they each had 14 points in the final 20 minutes.
IU Southeast shot 55 percent from the field in the second half and were 15-of-16 from the free-throw line to help them pull away.
IU Southeast outscored the Pomeroys 64-28 in the paint and outscored SMWC 62-40 in the second half.
The Grenadiers host Simmons College of Kentucky on Homecoming Saturday at 1 p.m.
