NEW ALBANY, Ind. – IU Southeast split a doubleheader with Cardinal Stritch University, dropping game one 8-5 and winning game two 4-3 on a walkoff single by Kaitlyn Flowers.
In game one, IU Southeast opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning. Lindsey Keen doubled to right-center to score Morgan Keefer and Keen later scored on a RBI single from Miranda Miller.
IU Southeast (3-1) added a run in the third when Kaitlyn Flowers doubled to bring in Ashtyn Sharp who had led off the inning with a single.
Cardinal Stritch (1-1) got on the board in the fourth inning when Karlyn Lange scored from third on a wild pitch from Emily Weiss.
The Wolves would take the lead in the fifth with a three-run inning. RBI singles by Paige Kitzing, Lauren Stoch and Emily Parks gave Cardinal Stritch a 4-3 lead.
IU Southeast tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Kyndyl Olds and Sharp started the inning with back-to-back doubles but IU Southeast would only score one run in the frame.
Cardinal Stritch plated four runs in the sixth off of reliever Becca Schoenung. After a walk and wild pitch brought in two runs, Stoch hit a two-run single to right.
IU Southeast got one run in the seventh but could not rally to tie. Becca Schoenung (1-1) took the loss in two innings of relief. Kyndyl Olds and Ashytn Sharp each had three hits in the loss.
In game two, IU Southeast scored first once again when Sharp singled to left to score Maddie Probus who had reached on a walk.
The Wolves tied the game in the fourth inning when Kitzing was retired on a sacrifice bunt but Sarah Wilson was able to score when the Grenadiers could not cover third base in time and a throw from Lindsey Nelson ended up the third base line.
Cardinal Stritch took the lead in the sixth when Kyndyl Olds dropped a fly ball that would have ended the inning but instead Courtney Blumer scored and Lange followed with an RBI single.
IU Southeast responded in the bottom of the seventh. After Kyndyl Olds beat a the throw to second base which allowed Sharp to reach first on a fielder's choice, both runners advanced on a wild pitch into scoring position on a wild pitch. Kaitlyn Flowers came through with two outs with a walkoff single to left to win it.
Emily Weiss (2-0) got the win in one and a third innings of relief.
IU Southeast hosts Kentucky Christian Friday at 2 p.m.
