PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The IU Southeast baseball team completed a sweep of Point Park in dominant fashion Sunday defeating the Pioneers 13-2 in seven innings and 2-1.
In game one, IU Southeast got on the board first when Derek Wagner hit a solo home run to left for this third home run of the year.
The Grenadiers (20-9, 9-3 RSC) broke the game open with a four-run third inning. Clay Woeste and Jordan Branz each scored on errors. Daniel Brescia scored on a RBI groundout by Brody Tanksley and a RBI single by Branz brought in Cody Maloon.
IU Southeast added five more runs in the fourth. Clay Woeste reached on a error and Brescia was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Derek Wagner followed with a RBI single and Maloon followed with a RBI double. Brody Tanksley hit a sacrifice fly and then Jordan Branz hit a two-run home run to left for his third home run of the season.
Ed Pfluger hit a two-run home run to left in the bottom of the fourth to put the Pioneers on the board but that was all the offense they could muster.
IU Southeast tacked on three runs in the sixth. Dalton Mitchell and Daunte Decello each hit RBI singles and then Decello scored on a error.
Jack Wohlert (6-0) got the win in six innings of work. He allowed six hits and two runs while walking two.
Jordan Branz had two hits, scored three runs and drove in three. Derek Wagner, Brody Tanksley and Daunte Decello each had two hits and drove in a pair.
In game two, Point Park scored first when Erik Montero singled to score Cole Horew who had led off with a double.
The Grenadiers took the lead in the fourth when they scored a pair of runs. Cody Maloon led off with a double to center. He would score on a fielder's choice. Then Dalton Mitchell scored on an error.
The Grenadiers capitalized on 11 Pioneer errors in the series which led to eight unearned runs. IU Southeast outscored the Pioneers 26-3 on the weekend.
Clay Woeste and Ben Berenda each had two hits in the win. Kyle Hawkins worked five and a third innings of scoreless relief to earn his second win of the year. He allowed one hit and a walk while striking out a pair.
IU Southeast hosts No. 20 Taylor University Tuesday at 5 p.m.
