NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Hunter Kloke had a no-hitter into the fifth inning and Jacob Frankel worked two scoreless innings for his second save as IU Southeast got past Huntington 2-1 on Friday.
IU Southeast (6-0) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Marco Romero sparked a two-out rally with a double. Brody Tanksley followed with a RBI single to make it 1-0.
The Grenadiers added to the lead in the third. Daunte Decello singled and advanced to second a sacrifice bunt by Clay Woeste. After a groundout, Romero singled to center to score Decello.
Hunter Kloke did not allow a hit for the first 4 and a third innings of the contest and he quickly retired the next batters after allowing the first hit.
He did not run into trouble until the seventh inning. After a one-out walk and a double put runners at second and third, Cole Landrum singled through the hole at shortstop to cut the lead in half.
Jacob Morley came on in relief and got the Grenadiers out of the jam. Kloke (3-0) finished the day working six and third innings, allowing one run on four hits. He walked one and struck out four.
Jacob Frankel worked two scoreless innings in relief. He entered the game with runners on first and second and no one out in the eighth. After a sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third, he struck Satchell Wilson looking, walked Jarrett Gray and then struck out Owen Young to end the inning.
He retired the side in order in the ninth for his second save. He walked one and struck out three.
Marco Romero went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Brody Tanksley had two hits and a RBI.
IU Southeast concludes the series with Huntington Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader.
