Box Score NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team dropped a 75-65 decision to Oakland City on Tuesday.
Emmy Ralph had 16 points to lead IU Southeast. Lauren Lambdin had nine points and Lettie Nice and Brynna Blackburn each added eight points.
The Grenadiers and Mighty Oaks ended the first quarter tied at 17 but sluggish second quarter swung the momentum in favor of Oakland City. IU Southeast was outscored 20-10 in the second period and trailed 37-27 at halftime.
IU Southeast trailed by nine multiple times during the period but Brynna Blackburn's three-pointers kept the Grenadiers within striking distance. She cut the lead to 31-25 with 2:30 to play in the quarter. Oakland City scored the final six points of the half to take a 10-point lead to halftime.
With IU Southeast trailing by just four in the third quarter, 47-43, the success of Oakland City from behind-the-arc proved to be the difference. A pair of layups sandwiched by a three-pointer gave the Mighty Oaks a 54-43 advantage as they started the fourth quarter.
IU Southeast was just 7-of-32 from three-point range in the contest compared to Oakland City's 10-of-15.
Oakland City hit three key three-pointers to extend their lead early in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach with the Grenadiers threatening.
After a three-pointer by Ralph cut the lead to 11, Oakland City responded with a 10-0 run to secure the win.
The Mighty Oak bench outscored IU Southeast 40-20 in the contest. Every Grenadier who entered the contest scored, but the perimeter shooting doomed the Grenadiers on Tuesday.
IU Southeast travels to West Virginia Tech January 6.
