Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team fell 75-68 to Midway in a closely contested game on Thursday
Brynna Blackburn scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Emmy Ralph put up a double-double, scoring 14 points and dishing out 10 assists. Alex Maher scored 14 points, and Leah Miller scored 11 in the contest.
IU Southeast (11-16, 7-10 RSC) started the game on a 9-2 run following a three by Brynna Blackburn. With the Grenadiers leading 18-11, Midway used a 7-0 run to tie the game at 18. An Emmy Ralph three pointer gave the Grenadiers a 21-18 lead headed into the second quarter.
Midway took their first lead of the game at 23-22 following a layup by Dezeree White. The Grenadiers answered with two straight jumpers to pull back in front at 26-23. The Grenadiers took a 38-31 lead after a 4-0 run by Alex Maher. A Midway layup to close the second quarter narrowed the Grenadier lead to 38-33 at the half.
Midway tied the game at 38 quickly after halftime, but the Grenadiers responded with a 5-0 run by Emmy Ralph. Once again Midway responded, tying the game at 47 on a Kindall Talley three. A Brynna Blackburn three pointer gave the Grenadiers another five-point lead at 52-47. The Grenadiers took a 56-53 lead into the fourth quarter.
Brynna Blackburn hit another three to give the Grenadiers a 59-53 lead in the first seconds of the fourth quarter. Midway, as they did all game, responded by going on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 59. After an Alex Maher layup put the Grenadiers up 61-59, Midway used another 6-0 run to take a 65-61 lead. A 7-0 run by Midway's Kindall Talley gave the Eagles their largest lead at 72-63.
Trailing by eight, the Grenadiers used another three pointer by Brynna Blackburn to narrow the Midway lead to five. Midway hit seven of their ten free throws in the fourth quarter and went on to win 75-68 to move to 22-6 on the year.
The Grenadiers shot 41.3 percent from the field, including going 9-23 from behind the arc. IU Southeast assisted on 19 of their 26 made shots. Midway outrebounded the Grenadiers 46-39 in the contest, 16 of which were offensive. Midway shot 10 of their 16 free throws in the fourth quarter.
IU Southeast travels to Oakland City for their final regular season game on Saturday.
