Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BALDWIN CITY, KANSAS – The IU Southeast softball team used a 10-run 6th inning to rally from a 9-2 deficit and defeat Valley City State 12-9 on Tuesday.  The Grenadiers then took on No. 6-ranked College of Idaho in the loser's bracket final and fell 8-2.

The Vikings scored five runs in the top of the first but IU Southeast was able to chip away with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.

Savannah Gaither came through with a two-run single with the bases loaded to get IU Southeast on the board.

A sacrifice fly by Riley Perryman and two-run single by Marissa Hawkins extended the Viking lead to 8-2 in the third.

After VCSU tacked on another run in the sixth, the stage was set for a memorable comeback.

Taylor Hoggatt led off with a double and scored on a single by Issy Wright.  Autumn Oehlstrom reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases and drive in Wright. Then Erin Templeman came through with a two-run double and Macie Zink followed with a RBI single to cut the lead to cut the lead to 9-7.

A RBI groundout cut the lead to one and put runners at second and third. Issy Wright drove them in with a single. Then Cassi Roman singled to load the bases once again and Oehlstrom singled to left to extend the lead to 12-9.

Hannah Nunemaker allowed two hits in the final frame but a diving catch by Katie Templeman ended the game and advanced IU Southeast to the loser's bracket final.

She worked four innings of relief and allowed one run on six hits while striking out two to earn her sixth win.

Macie Zink and Issy Wright each were 3-for-3 in the win while Wright, Gaither and Oehlstrom all drove in three runs.

In the final game of the day, the Grenadiers fell behind 7-0 as the College of Idaho scored four runs in the first inning and three runs in the fourth to take a commanding lead.

Autumn Oehlstrom got IU Southeast on the scoreboard in the fourth when she hit a two-run home run to left, her 14th of the season.

Senior Brooklyn Gibbs worked three and 1/3 innings of relief for IU Southeast and allowed three runs on while striking out a pair. Morgan Jenks worked 2/3 scoreless innings of relief in her final collegiate appearance.

Autumn Oehlstrom was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the loss.
