Brett Neffendorf Steps Down as Head Coach of IU Southeast Baseball

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Brett Neffendorf has stepped down as head coach of IU Southeast baseball, athletic director Tod Bannister announced.

Neffendorf will be joining the Western Kentucky University baseball staff as an assistant coach, overseeing the pitching staff.

"We want to thank Coach Neffendorf for his tireless work at continuing to move the baseball program forward," Bannister said. "The Grenadier family wishes him all the best in his new role at Western Kentucky University."

"I'm very appreciative of my time at IU Southeast and will miss being a part of the Grenadier family," Neffendorf said. "I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to spend two years with and will never forget the experiences we shared. Thank you to the players, coaches, athletic department and administrators for the support and commitment to the vision of IU Southeast baseball."

In his two seasons, Neffendorf accumulated a record of 69-38 overall and 37-10 in conference play.

In the 2024 NAIA Opening Round, the Grenadiers went 4-0 in the Upland Bracket, which included a historic 12-run inning with two outs in the ninth to defeat Indiana Tech 14-11. IU Southeast clinched their second Avista World Series berth in four years with a 14-10 win against No. 7 Missouri Baptist.

IU Southeast defeated No. 15 William Carey 6-5 in the 2024 NAIA World Series with Neffendorf at the helm.

In his second year, Neffendorf led IU Southeast back to the NAIA Opening Round, where they made it to the Championship Game after defeating No. 10 William Carey 10-6 and No. 11 Oklahoma Wesleyan 14-8.

In his first season, IU Southeast had two NAIA All-Americans in Luke Schafer and Mason White. White also won the Player of the Year in the River States Conference. Another player, RHP Garrett Hill, was named an NAIA Ball All-American. In 2025, Logan Beard was named RSC Player of the Year and Luca Sandrella was named RSC Freshman of the Year. Beard was also named an NAIA All-American.

More than a dozen players who played for Neffendorf at IU Southeast signed pro contracts after the conclusion of their time as a Grenadier.

Assistant coach Vince Tornincasa will act as interim head coach. A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
