NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team defeated Grace College 74-63 in the consolation game of 2009 Grenadier Invitational Tournament (GIT) on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 14).
The University of Northwestern Ohio defeated the University of Virginia's College at Wise, 81-78, in the tournament championship game. Northwestern Ohio won the tournament title with two wins in two days over Grace College and UVa-Wise.
IU Southeast (3-2, 0-0 KIAC) excelled at the free-throw line on Saturday afternoon by hitting 84-percent (26-for-31) its free-throws to put the game out of reach for the Lancers of Grace College (2-4, 0-0 MCC).
The Grenadiers were led by junior
Alden Krausse (Floyd Knobs, Ind.) who scored 23 points with six blocks and five rebounds. Senior
Whitney Duncan (Louisville, Ky.) scored 15 points with six assists and three steals to help propel to Grenadiers to victory.
The Grenadiers shot 42-percent from field goal range and 35-percent from behind the 3-pt. arc. IU Southeast led by nine at halftime, 35-26.
Grace College was led by
Demetria Eley with 18 points, six rebounds and three assists. IU Southeast was out-rebounded 40-29 but took care of the basketball, only committing 15 turnovers. The Grenadiers defense forced Grace to 26 turnovers.
Grace shot 40-percent from the field and 25-percent from 3-pt. range.

Next, IU Southeast will host Kentucky Christian College next Friday (Nov. 21) at 7 p.m. in the Southeast Activities Building.
Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. Ticket prices for the event are $7 for adult general admission and free of charge for children 12 years old or younger. IU Southeast season tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25.
