Wheat Breaks 1,000 Points As Grenadiers Bash Bulldogs

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Heather Wheat scored 18 points to enter the 1,000 points club and IU Southeast never trailed as the Grenadiers defeated Union 72-54.

Wheat led the Grenadiers with 18 points. Tionna Peters added nine off the bench and Sidney Carr and Alex Tinsley each had eight points.

Wheat needed 16 points to hit 1,000 in her career. Her 1,000 point came on a layup off of an inbounds pass from Bridgette Jones. She became the 23rd IU Southeast women's basketball player to break the 1,000 point mark.

The Grenadiers (2-0) held the Bulldogs (1-1) to just 35 percent shooting and Union was only four of nineteen from three-point range.

Lydia Nash had 19 points and Amber Taylor had 11 for the Bulldogs.

Once again, the bench was key for IU Southeast, outscoring the Bulldogs 32-7.

IU Southeast travels to Oakland City on Tuesday before returning home to host St. Mary-of-the Woods in a rematch of last year's 148-101 Grenadier win. The game set a new NAIA single game scoring record for combined points.
