PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The IU Southeast baseball team used clutch doubles by Mitchell Mattingly and Justin Hurst to snap Point Park's 16-game winning streak on Saturday afternoon.
The Grenadiers (23-21, 11-6 KIAC) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after three innings before Point Park tied it in the bottom of the fourth. Each team scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning. The Pioneers' (26-12, 13-5 KIAC) two runs knocked IU Southeast starter from the game after four and 1/3 innings. He gave up four runs on seven hits and while striking out three.
Mattingly's double in the top of the sixth knocked in Marcus Howard and Brad Walker and Hurst followed two batters later with a double to score Mattingly.
David Gibson (2-0) worked one and 1/3 innings to pick up the win, Evan Bickett struck out two in one and 1/3 innings to get his second save. Sean Clark got the loss for Point Park.
The top of the order (Walker, Mattingly, Frank Pluskota, Hurst) went a combined 8-for-15 with four RBI in the game. Each of those batters had a multi-hit game in the win.
In game two, Point Park jumped out to a 10-0 lead after three innings and did not look back en route to a 17-1 win. Alex Potter had two of IU Southeast's three hits in the game.
