ATHENS, Tenn. – IU Southeast used a five-run eighth inning to pick up a comeback victory over No. 8 Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday afternoon.
The Grenadiers (4-3) led 4-1 after four innings of play, but the Bulldogs roared back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.
After the Bulldogs added two more runs in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead, the Grenadiers' offense awoke and scored the next eight runs.
The IU Southeast offense exploded in the eighth. Frank Pluskota came through with a two-run RBI single to right with one out and the bases loaded. Two batters later, Jarret Young brought Pluskota in with an RBI single. The Grenadiers added two more runs in the frame.
Brian Crider added two more runs with an RBI double in the top of the ninth to seal the win.
Marcus Howard had a solid day, going 3 for 5 and scored three runs. Evan Bickett picked up his first win of the season in two and 2/3 innings of hitless relief.
The Grenadiers conclude the series tomorrow with a doubleheader that begins at noon.
