OWENSBORO, Ky. – The IU Southeast women's tennis team lost a heartbreaker 5-4 to Asbury University in the KIAC Championship Saturday.
The No. 2 doubles team of Katie Walsh and Alexis Applegate picked up the Grenadiers' lone win in doubles, getting an 8-5 win over Alex LoPrinzi and Laura Ross.
Emily Ross and Juleah Morehouse defeated IU Southeast's No. 3 pairing of Anne Marie Mattox and Abby Hurtgen 8-2.
The No. 1 doubles match between Dana Frank/Maddie Ikerd and Sarah Beth Alford/Caitlynn Conyers match needed to go to a tiebreaker and Asbury prevailed 9-8.
The Grenadiers trailed 2-1 after doubles.
In singles play, Katie Walsh rolled past Sarah Beth Alford 6-3, 6-2, Alexis Applegate defeated LoPrinzi 6-4, 6-2 and Abby Hurtgen made quick work of Emily Ross 6-2, 6-0.
Laura Ross picked up a singles victory for Asbury with a win over Maddie Ikerd so the Grenadiers led 4-3.
The momentum in the match swung fully in Asbury's favor when Juleah Morehouse defeated Anne Marie Mattox in a second set tiebreaker 6-2, 7-6 to tie the match.
Caitlin Conyers clinched the match for Asbury with a 7-6, 6-1 win.
