Grenadiers Sweep Alice Lloyd on Senior Day

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team was back in action Saturday after a week of rain and wind damage to the Koetter Baseball Complex. The Grenadiers swept Alice Lloyd 6-2 and 8-3 as the Grenadier seniors starred on Senior Day.

In game one, senior Michael Fitzwater pitched a one-hit gem. He did not allow a run and struck out three and walked two batters.

The Grenadiers (24-12, 9-5 KIAC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a four-run second inning. Tyler Adams led off with a triple, then Jarret Young was hit by a pitch. Adams scored on a wild throw. After Marcus Howard reached base on a bunt, Brad Walker scored on fielder's choice. Then Josh Beams hit a two-run single to bring in Alex Bush and Alex Dapkus.

IU Southeast added two more in the fourth. Nick Pope singled and Alex Bush (running for Pope) stole second and scored Howard's RBI single. After Beams bunted and reached base safely, Howard came around to score ahead of the throw.

Seniors Howard and Dapkus each had two hits in the win, while fellow senior Jarret Young went 1-for-2. Sophomore Josh Beams went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In game two, IU Southeast opened the game by scoring two runs in each of the first three innings to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Grenadiers scored their two runs in the first with two outs. Beams reached base on an error and scored on Trent Simpson's double. Simpson reached third on a balk and scored on another Eagle error.

In the second inning, added two more with the bases loaded. Walker scored on a wild pitch and Beams had another RBI single to score Howard.

The Grenadiers loaded the bases again in the sixth. Adams drew a walk to score Beams and Young hit a sacrifice fly which brought in Simpson.
