PITTSBURGH- The Grenadier baseball team swept No. 21 Point Park on Friday 6-4 and 5-3.
In game one, the Grenadiers trailed 4-1 as they batted in the top of the fifth. Brad Walker led off with a double and Nick Pope and Marcus Howard hit back-to-back singles which brought in Walker. Later, Trent Simpson singled to bring in Pope. Logan Coughlin hit a three-run home run as the Grenadiers to the lead.
Michael Fitzwater worked four innings to pick up his fourth win. He allowed five hits and four runs while walking three and striking out five. Evan Bickett earned his 11th save.
Simpson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Coughlin had four RBI in the win.
In game two, the Grenadiers trailed 2-0 after the first inning. IU Southeast answered with one run in the top of the second. Coughlin singled and Tyler Adams doubled. Then Jarret Young hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Coughlin.
IU Southeast (29-13, 13-5 KIAC) would add two runs in each of the third and fourth innings. Coughlin hit his second home run of the day, this time a two-run shot to make it 3-2. In the fourth, Nick Pope hit his first collegiate home run after a Young double.
Clint Chestnut (5-2) worked six innings, surrendering three runs on three hits. He walked five in the game. Bickett got his second save of the day.
Coughlin went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Grant Anderson and Simpson each went 2-for-3.
Saturday's doubleheader against Point Park will begin at noon.
