Grenadiers Combine To Throw No-Hitter In Game 1 Win

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Trent Simpson and Evan Bickett combined to throw a no-hitter in IU Southeast's 5-1 win in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader against Oakland City.

The Grenadiers (30-16) struck first with two runs in the third inning. Nick Pope singled and Alex Bush entered the game to pinch run for him. A passed ball scored Bush and a single by Logan Coughlin made it 2-0.

The Grenadiers added two more in the fifth. Grant Anderson drew a bases-loaded walk which brought in Dapkus and a Jarret Young sacrifice fly scored Josh Beams.

Starter Trent Simpson worked five scoreless innings. He struck out three and walked two. Bickett worked the final two frames and allowed one unearned run. He walked one and struck out two.

Oakland City's only run came in the top of the seventh when a misplayed ground ball by Anderson allowed a runner to score from third.

Nick Pope and Alex Dapkus each went 2-for-3 in the win.

In game two, the Grenadier offense could not get going, as they only put four hits on the board against starter Craig Peters who picked up the complete-game shutout en route to a 3-0 win.
