Grenadiers Roll Past IU East and Brescia Saturday

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's tennis team picked up two dominant wins on Saturday, defeating IU East and Brescia by identical 9-0 scores.

IU Southeast (6-2, 3-0 KIAC) faced IU East to open the day's action. The Grenadiers started the day with a sweep in doubles action. The No. 1 doubles team of Katie Walsh and Alexis Applegate defeated Sally Wilhoite and Brittany Hethcox 8-4.

Dana Frank and Maddie Ikerd easily dispatched Madison Bixler and Jordyn Bowman 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Abby Hurtgen and Anne Marie Mattox defeated Rebecca and Sarah Lockhart 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.

IU Southeast was dominant in singles play, dropping just 10 games at the six positions. No Grenadier player dropped more than three games in a singles match. Reigning KIAC Player of the Week Katie Walsh picked up an easy 6-0, 6-0 win over Brittany Hethcox at No. 2 singles.

In the second match of the day, the Grenadiers got off to a quick start by sweeping doubles once again. Dana Frank and Maddie Ikerd defeated Dakota Durrett and Tarsila Duck 8-5 at No. 1 doubles and Katie Walsh and Alexis Applegate got past Naruemon Wiriyachon and Brookelyn Hattabaugh 8-3.

The Grenadiers also got wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles as Brescia defaulted at those positions.

Dana Frank was dominant at No. 1 singles, defeating Durrett 6-0, 6-1. Walsh won 6-3, 6-3 over Wiriyachon, Applegate defeated Duck 6-1, 6-2.

Maddie Ikerd picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win over Hattabaugh and Abby Hurtgen won 6-1, 6-3 over Emily Adkins.

The Grenadiers travel to Asbury on Friday at 4 p.m. for a crucial KIAC contest.
