Grenadiers Score Late To Knock Off No. 10 Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The IU Southeast baseball team rallied for a 3-2 win over No. 10 Lindsey Wilson Tuesday and a dominant performance from the bullpen shut the door.

The Grenadiers (18-10) opened the scoring in the second. Tyler Adams walked and advanced to second on Cody Maloon's single. Adams scored after a grounder to short was misplayed off the bat of Kyle Goodman.

Lindsey Wilson took the lead in the bottom of the third. A leadoff double to left by Victor Nazario opened the inning and the next batter, Fabiam Chirino walked. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Nazario scored on an RBI single by Edgar Lebrion and Chirino scored on a wild pitch from starter Brian Cherrington.

The offenses for both teams were shut down for most of the day. IU Southeast, which only had five hits, would not score again until the eighth inning. Back-to-back singles by Logan Barnes and Trent Simpson opened the inning and both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Volz. Kyle Asher grounded out to second and Barnes scored and Jordan Branz, who was running for Simpson, advanced to third where he scored on a wild pitch.

Jarrod Messex would work one and two-thirds for his eighth save. Brad Ferriell got the win in relief. He worked four and a third and gave up two hits and struck out four.

Trent Simpson went 2-for-4 for IU Southeast.

The IU Southeast bullpen scattered four hits in six innings of work.

The Grenadiers host Georgetown College Wednesday at 3 p.m.
