NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team rallied for another late victory over Lindsey Wilson, this time getting a walk-off, 5-4 win on Tuesday.
The Grenadiers (19-11) rallied for two runs in the eighth inning of the teams' previous meeting March 29, a 3-2 IU Southeast win.
IU Southeast got on the board first when Logan Coughlin got a sacrifice bunt down to bring in Jordan Branz to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
The Blue Raiders (26-15) would score two runs in the top of the third. Aaron Ashton hit a bases-loaded two RBI single to make it 2-1.
IU Southeast would tie the game in the fourth when Coughlin hit a leadoff home run to left, his second of the year.
Lindsey Wilson responded with two runs in the fifth, but the Grenadiers would tie the game once again in the eighth.
After a single by Matt Volz and a double by Coughlin put the tying runs in scoring position, Clay Benefield singled through the hole at second and tied the game.
In the bottom of the ninth, Logan Barnes walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Trent Simpson walked and Kyle Asher came to the plate with one out. He hit a ground ball to second that took a bad hop and got away from the shortstop Fabian Chirino which allowed Barnes to score the winning run.
Jarrod Messex worked two-thirds of an inning to get his second win of the year.
Logan Coughlin went 2-for-2 with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk.
The Grenadiers travel to Miami-Hamilton on Thursday.
